Hatching Chicks

Earlier this year eleven eggs arrived in an incubator...

It wasn't long before seven of the eggs had cracked open and seven extremely cute chicks had hatched. When they were ready they were moved from the incubator to a brooder box and their feathers fluffed up. The brooder contained a lighbulb to keep them warm and food and water which was regularly topped up by the students.

The chicks were with us for ten days and caused a lot of excitement around Thorneywood. All of the students took an active role in looking after them and treated them with great care. For the short time they were with us they became part of life at the Education Base. It was amazing to see how much they grew; by the time they left they were developing their adult feathers. They were then taken to a free range farmer. We were sad to see them go.
