The Adolescent Class

As the CAMHS Adolescent Unit is a regional centre, young people may be on roll at schools/colleges from a geographically wide area.

A significant number of our students are Post 16 and close contact is kept with 6th Forms and Colleges in order that work is made available as soon as possible.

Many of the young people are in the middle of GCSEs/A Levels or other accredited courses and the primary aim of the provision is to ensure that progress towards achieving a good outcome in exams is maintained.

Should it be necessary, arrangements can be made for students to sit Statuary Examinations at the Base.

Whilst the focus will always be on maintaining and improving academic attainment, particular emphasis is given to the Emotional Health and Well-Being of students, given the nature and complexity of their illnesses.

There are extensive links with mainstream schools/colleges and other agencies such as the Connexions Service.

Some on-site Work Experience placements are also arranged to allow students to spend time in the Primary Classroom listening to children read, and so on.
